Happy cheers from Ambassador Alima Mahama in commemoration of Ghana’s Independence Day

GOODWILL MESSAGE BY H.E. ALIMA MAHAMA

AMBASSADOR OF GHANA TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

ON THE OCCASION OF GHANA’S 66TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY

On the occasion of the 66th Anniversary of the Independence of Ghana, I wish to extend, on behalf of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, hearty congratulations and wishes of goodwill to all Ghanaians in the United States of America.

The theme for this year’s Independence Anniversary, Our Unity; Our Strength; Our Purpose is reflective of the current situation confronting the world, including Ghana, which has been brought on by the drag of the effects of the outbreak of the Covid-19 Pandemic, and the far-felt effects of the Russian-Ukraine War with its attendant impact on food security, energy and agricultural inputs for developing countries.

As Ghana, like most countries in the world, pursue a path towards recovery, our progress, growth and strength can only be realized through our unity as a people as we confront what lies ahead. The Ghanaian has always been known for being friendly and welcoming, but also throughout history we have been known to show great power and resilience, which enabled us emerge as the Lodestar of African Freedom on the continent.

Much recently, Ghanaians in Ghana and all over the world exemplified this same resilience as we confronted the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic, and we continue to show this in the face of the current economic situation in the country. While others have fallen to strife, we continue to enjoy a functioning democracy, a stable government, peace and other trappings that make for a good society, such as good education, healthcare and a growing infrastructural base.

The Government of Ghana is taking the necessary steps to ensure that the country is set back on the economic trajectory we were on prior to the recent developments, through the COVID-19 Alleviation and Revitalization of Enterprises Support Program; support for growth of the private sector; and the 2023 Budget. With these measures, the African Development Bank’s African Economic Outlook Report described Ghana as one of the fastest-growing economies on the continent in the coming years with a prediction of 5.1% in GDP growth in 2023.

Dear Compatriots, our purpose is greater than our fears. I, therefore, call on all Ghanaians, irrespective of our political, ethnic or religious differences, to unite in strength and to stand with a common purpose to overcome the challenges confronting us.

May we all rally around the Flag of Ghana for continuous peace, stability and prosperity for all.

My Dear Compatriots, I wish you all a very happy Independence Anniversary.

God bless our Homeland Ghana and make our Nation great and strong!!

     HAJIA ALIMA MAHAMA
