Mandela Washington Fellows pay courtesy call on Ambassador Alima Mahama

On Thursday, 1st August, 2024, a group of thirty-two young Ghanaians drawn from various regions of Ghana participating in the 2024 Mandela Washington Fellowship, part for the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Hajia Alima Mahama at the Embassy of Ghana in Washington DC.
The Ambassador in her welcome address highlighted the importance of the fellowship and its impact on fostering leadership and development in Africa.

The Fellows shared their individual experiences in the United States and accomplishments back home with the Ambassador and her Staff, emphasizing how the knowledge gain would impact their respective works going forward.   .

Ambassador Mahama acknowledged the achievements and potential of the Fellows to leverage the experiences and connections gained during this tenure of the fellowship to drive positive change in their various communities in Ghana.
The Fellows had a hearty interaction with the Ambassador and diplomatic staff, took pictures and treated them to some refreshments.

The Mandela Washington Fellows were selected from various sectors of Ghana, including agriculture, civil society, education, and healthcare among others. They were enrolled for six-weeks at Leadership Institutes across various U.S. Universities. The Fellows engaged in academic coursework, leadership training, and participated in an optional Professional Development Experience (PDE) at various United States Non-profit, business, and government agencies.

Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders 2024 is fully funded by the United States Haven Foundation. The Fellowship is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2024, and has brought nearly 6,500 young leaders from every country in Sub-Saharan Africa to the United States for academic and leadership training.
