Hajia Alima Mahama represents Letters of Credence in Belize

On Monday, 19th September 2022, Her Excellency Hajia Alima Mahama presented the Letters of Credence appointing her as High Commissioner Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Ghana accredited to Belize to the Belizean Minister for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and Immigration, Honorable Eamon Courtenay.

 

After the presentation, a discussion between the two centered on areas of mutual interest including tourism, multilateralism, agriculture, and climate change. The Minister pledged to render Belize’s support to Ghana’s positions at the multilateral levels while High Commissioner Mahama expressed her desire to deepen the existing ties between the two countries.

 

High Commissioner Mahama, later on, had the opportunity to interact with both the Belizean Governor General, Her Excellency Dame Froyla Tzalam, and Prime Minister, Honorable John Briceno respectively on different occasions.

 

Belize maintains 14 embassies to foreign countries, one consulate, and three missions to international organizations. In 1990, Belize became a member of the Organization of American States, and of the Commonwealth of Nations in 1981.

 

Ghana established diplomatic relations in September 1981 with Belize and has since worked to establish positive ties with her.
